What is YoungLives?

Why We Do This

Teen pregnancy and childbearing have substantial social and economic impacts for communities. There are approximately 70 pregnancies per 1,000 females aged 15-19 and around 40 births per 1,000 females in this age group. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, teen pregnancy accounts for more than $9 billion in costs to U.S. taxpayers and significantly contributes to high school drop out rates among females. The pregnancy, birth, sexually transmitted disease, and abortion rates are substantially higher among teenagers in the U.S. compared to other western industrialized nations.

Contact Work

Volunteers spend time with teen moms where they are, sharing life together. YoungLives mentors provide encouragement, guidance and ongoing support.

Club

Club is a time of fun and laughter. Girls make new friends and experience support in being a mom. They also find food, activities, music, childcare and a message about real life.

Camp

We invite teen moms and their children to come and experience the best week of their lives at YoungLives camp.

Tara's Story

"My personal journey with Jesus began as a young child in a community where I was surrounded by believers and enveloped with the love of Christ by my family, friends, pastors, teachers and mentors.

It was as a teenager that I began to more fully understand what Christ did for me and eho he was creating me to be. Eager to serve Him and share His Truth with others, I put my faith into action and served on various mission teams, which eventually led me to Washington, DC. In each of these wide-ranging experiences, God sgtretched, refined and developed me as mature Christians discipled me along the way.

For the past 25 years, I've called the DC Capital Region, my home. My husband of 20 years, Michael, has been my faithful partner in life. Together we have seen the mighty works of God's hands through challenges and sometimes grief, as well as in life's greatest joys! We are incredibly blessed with three children, Olivia, Benjamin and Joshua. The past four years, leading the thriving YoungLives teams across the region has been an honor and a priviledge. I cannot wait to see all that God will do through the YoungLives ministries in the Capital Region. We are just getting started... "
